Hitting the Road with a Stroller, a Smile, and a Pup

On Friday, April 5, 2024, at nine in the morning, the renowned traveler Oliver Tič, also known as Oli Walker, set off from his hometown of Slovenian Konjice on a journey around the world. On his second expedition, spanning four years and covering approximately 30,000 kilometers across Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa, he will be accompanied by his faithful dog Carlitos, whom he met on his previous adventure in Peru and subsequently adopted.Zsdravo hhaha

He named this journey the Friendship Trail around the world, which he introduced in February of this year at the Alpe Adria fair in Ljubljana. He marked April 5th as the D-day for this endeavor.

This latest project will be the greatest life challenge yet for the Konjice hiker, more demanding than all previous ones, as he has decided to traverse the globe. In addition to already trekking through South and North America, he will now traverse the remaining continents. Along the way, he will cross approximately 35 countries, covering more than 30,000 kilometers, and is expected to return to Slovenian Konjice within three to four years.

Today, he will walk through part of Carinthia; he has already stopped in Slovenj Gradec and continues his journey towards Radlje ob Dravi.

First, he will journey through the countries of the former Yugoslavia towards Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey, where he will commence his Asian leg of the journey. There, he will visit Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, then proceed through Iran and Pakistan to Mumbai in India. From there, he will fly to Vietnam, then continue on foot through Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia to the southern tip of Singapore.

From Singapore, he will fly to Australia, then cross the entire continent of Africa via South Africa to Egypt, from where he will fly back to Europe, but not home. He will traverse Portugal, then journey through Spain, France, and Italy before returning to his hometown of Slovenian Konjice.

As he stated before his departure, leaving home is something he’s accustomed to, but this time it feels much more emotional for him. “I slept very poorly last night. A significant factor in these feelings is also the fact that this time I’m leaving and returning on foot, whereas in the past, I usually flew somewhere and started my journey from there,” said Oli.

More than discovering new countries and places, he looks forward to meeting new people along the way. “Sights along the way don’t interest me as much as people do. What I love most is when someone invites me into their home along the way, showing me hospitality and trust,” added the Konjice native, who will regularly document his journey on social media.
